A brief history
Our story began when the motorway came to Cumbria. Here’s how we got here…
The M6 was built through our upland hill farm.
We opened the famous Tebay Services; a 40-seat cafe on the Northbound carriageway.
Westmorland Hotel opens, originally called ‘Tebay Mountain Lodge’.
Junction 38 Truckstop serves its first breakfast to hungry truck drivers.
Double up! Tebay South opens its doors for the first time.
Rheged is built, telling the story of ancient Cumbria and connecting people to the artistic side of the region.
We open our Farmshops at Tebay, showcasing local makers of handmade authentic foods.
Our Butchers' counters open at Tebay, selling beef and lamb from our farm and local farms.
We opened Gloucester Services on the M5 in partnership with the community development charity, Gloucestershire Gateway Trust.
We remodelled and relaunched Cairn Lodge Services on the A74(M); a much-loved family business that had been put up for sale by the McInnes family.

Our Values
Our values aren’t just words on a wall — they’re part of how we work, how we treat each other, and how we show up every day. From a warm welcome to honest hard work and the courage to do things differently, these values shape everything we do. They’re at the heart of our family — and if you share them, you’ll fit right in.
Warmth
We take every opportunity to make people’s day through acts of kindness. We respect others so they feel included, and we celebrate and embrace differences.
Graft
Courage
We cherish our uniqueness and make the right decisions, not the easy ones. Wespeak openly for the good of the business and each other, and we listen with an open mind.
I’m incredibly grateful for the development opportunities i’ve been given here at Westmorland
