Learning and Development Manager
£40,000 - 50,000 per annum

About The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an L&D professional who has the knowledge and the vision to reinvent the learning culture in our business.

As a key member of the People Team, you will set the Learning and Development strategy for our family business and ensure that it is a key part of our culture.

This is a national role based out of Cumbria that will interact closely with the Operations team across the business, this role has a large remit with an ability to reshape how colleagues learn.

You will ensure we are creating the very best learning tools that are unique to us with an authentic voice that our colleagues are proud of and externally we are admired for our learning culture.
Your responsibilities will include;
  • Setting the strategy for L&D in the business aligned with our Principles, ensuring learning and development is ingrained in our culture and is just what we do!
  • Working with our operational teams to ensure we have the best training tools for all our departments (Catering, Retail, Filling Stations and Hotels) as well as creating effective and engaging Food Safety and Health and Safety training materials. 
  • Creating unique and inspiring induction programmes for the different areas of our business that really tells our story
  • Managing the ‘Career Pathways’ and creating inspiring training materials to develop people across our operations and home office, including setting up a "Chef School" for our aspiring chefs and managing our apprenticeship programmes. 
  • Creating an annual course calendar which has a blended learning approach, balancing classroom and digital delivery methods, keeping up to date with new trends in learning and pushing the boundaries for the way we learn. 
  • Building a team of learning managers who can bring to life the learning tools and ensure all our colleagues receive the best learning experience from day one. 
  • Setting up a Management Training Centre and LMS that is unique to Westmorland
  • Creating meaningful L&D KPI’s that inform our L&D strategy and also create accountability in teams to promote learning and support our business objectives. 
The role is based in our home office at Tebay Services however will relocate to our brand new offices in Rheged, Penrith in 2021. Due to current government guidance the role will be based from home inititally. 

About You

You will be a natural people person who can identify potential in individuals and bring it out. Creative and forward thinking you will be passionate about driving a culture of learning throughout our business and able to keep up with changing trends as we look to modernise our L&D. 
You will be a great networker and influencer, able to build relationships internally from board level to team member; as well as externally with our many charity and community partners. You will need to really get under the skin of Westmorland to really understand the fabric of the business and what we need. 
You will need to be highly organised, self driven and resilient in setting the standards for learning and driving them forward.
Experience in the Catering, Retail and/or Hospitality sectors would be an advantage but not essential as would line management experience and experience of digital learning.
